V words were the ‘weapons’ in a skirmish that briefly engaged some key speakers at this week’s ‘Navigating Big Data’ conference in Canberra.
They agreed that government and corporate strategies to handle deluges of Big Data should be based on interpreting four V words. But should these be promoted to stakeholders as Velocity, Veracity, Volume, Variety, Value or … ?
From a private sector perspective, Intel’s international Big Data and Cloud strategist Parviz Peiravi said the key words were Volume, Variety, Velocity and Value.
From his public sector position, the CSIRO’s Digital Productivity Flagship leader Ian Oppermann agreed with Peiravi’s first three Vs but replaced the Intel emphasis on Value with a research group’s concern for Veracity (accuracy).
